SHRINE OF REMEMBERANCE
The Shrine of Remembrance was built to provide a place to grieve and remember Victorians killed in the First World War (1914-18). It now provides a place of remembrance for Australian service and sacrifice in all wars since Australia’s Federation in 1901. The Shrine is an iconic Melbourne landmark where visitors can discover the real-life stories of Australians in wartime, find peaceful reflection and view breathtaking vistas of the memorial gardens and Melbourne.
As the memories of historical conflicts fade, The Shrine prioritises education and interpretation, perpetuating the values associated with the original ANZACs.
